Resurgent Medvedev Secures First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.
The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with former trainer Cervara.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since spring of that year.
The win also signifies he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.
But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an better serve.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.
Both players traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to create a decider.
The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a tight final set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
